A look at the North Carolina church that is literally saving lives simply by planting “victory gardens”
Pastor Richard Joyner of the Conetoe Chapel Missionary had been performing too many funerals for congregants who were overweight or obese. So he conducted a health survey at the church and discovered that 65% of his congregation were obese. He then put the whole church on a diet and then planted a fruit and vegetable garden on the church campus.
The program has been so successful that the church formed a non-profit organization which now operates 20 different gardens and a 25-acre farm.
