Should the president of a Catholic university be forced to resign over controversial comments he made to a faculty member in an email regarding demanding freshman work harder to make the grade?

Mount St Mary’s President Simon Newman is pushing a student retention program that seeks to identify struggling students early on each semester – and then push them harder to bring up their grades or offer them tuition reimbursement to drop out of school

He suggested they stop treating struggling freshman “like cuddly bunnies, (but) you can’t. You just have to drown the bunnies . . . put a Glock to their heads.”

Interestingly enough . . . while the faculty have demanded he resign, support from the student body is huge. They favor the program 75 to 25.
