Why does the federal government think that a hospital founded by nuns “isn’t Catholic enough” to qualify for a religious exemption from federal pension laws?

 Most churches qualify for the exemption – and Dignity Health has always qualified in the past. But what makes this case one to watch is how the feds have determined that, since the Catholic Church doesn’t run DH (it’s part of a faith-based npo), they’re not “Catholic enough” to qualify for the exemption.

 Imagine how this ruling could impact other faith-based groups in terms of having to spend more on retirement plans because of being forced to comply with a federal standard established for for-profit businesses.
